Event Details

Improve the quality of your photographs and your ability to make images that are beautiful and appetizing.

This is an amazing opportunity to learn and hone your food photography skills with nationally published and award-winning food, travel, and people photographer, Penny De Los Santos. 

Workshop Outline:

1.Explaining a great food photograph (light direction, light qualities, food subject)

2.Choosing the best camera and the right lens for what you're doing.

3.Choosing the best camera angle and height when photographing food.

4.Identifying good light in a location and how to photograph with it.

5.How to diffuse and modify light.

6.How to identify the best way to photograph food (preparation, cooking, plated, meal in progress).

7.Using props that you have available to improve the overall photographic impact.

8.Seeing beyond the food. How to look for photographs that tell the story of the place. (moments and portraits).

 

Participants should bring their own camera (both SLR's & point-and-shoots are welcome) a laptop and a jump drive.  

This is a shooting workshop so please come prepared to make photographs.

 

Food & Wine's 2009 Best New Chef Mark Fuller and Bon Appetit Top 10 Best New Restaurants in America 2009 Spring Hill will be preparing beautiful dishes for attendees to shoot which we will be enjoying afterwards.


The Food Photography Workshop with Penny De Los Santos is being organized by Viv of Seattle Bon Vivant. This workshop promises to be a wonderful opportunity to learn from an award-winning photographer at one of Seattle's premier dining locations, at a special rate, lower than Ms. De Los Santos normal market rates for similar workshops.

 

About Penny:

Penny is a senior contributing photographer for Saveur Magazine, a contributing photographer for National Geographic, and her work has also appeared in Newsweek, Time Magazine, Martha Stewart Living, Texas Monthly.  She has also photographed several cookbooks including Andrea Nguyen's Asian Dumpling cookbook which has garnered national attention.  She has received awards from the World Press Photo Competition, NPPA Pictures of the Year, California Press Photographers Association, and International Center of Photography.  Penny has a Masters in Visual Journalism from Ohio University.
